Two more top posts turn vacant at North Bengal University

Varsity will not have registrar and finance officer from Wednesday
Binita Paul | TT | Siliguri | 02.03.23 ; The administrative crisis at North Bengal University deepened on Wednesday as two more prominent posts became vacant because of different reasons.
The varsity, which has been running without a vice-chancellor for the past one month, will not have a registrar and a finance officer from Wednesday.
S.N. Saha, the finance officer, retired on Tuesday, while Nupur Das, the acting registrar, left the post as her tenure ended on Tuesday. She has returned to her old post, secretary of the undergraduate council of the NBU, sources said.
“The finance officer is the drawing and disbursing officer of the varsity. He makes various payments, including salaries. Now that the post has become vacant, there will be problems in releasing payments,” said a source.
He also maintains the expenses of hostels at the NBU, including those for food.
“Even the students who stay at hostels can face troubles,” the source added.
A senior official of the NBU said there was no VC at the varsity and no one else had the authority to give the finance officer’s responsibility to another person.
“We had not received any directive from the state higher education department till Wednesday, even after informing them that our finance officer and the acting registrar would no longer be in their posts after February 28,” he said.
Swapan Rakshit, the joint registrar, said: “We are in touch with the higher education department and waiting for further instructions,” he said.
