- Enforcement Directorate, reportedly, arrests another TMC leader in connection with the cash-for-jobs scam in Bengal
- TMC’s leader from Hooghly, Santanu Banerjee, is said to have been arrested by the ED after he was called for questioning on Friday and grilled for over seven hours
- The agency claimed that the arrest followed discrepancies in Banerjee’s statements and on grounds of non-cooperation with investigation
- Banerjee was questioned by the agency on seven occasions before this, the ED had also previously conducted search operations at his residence and, reportedly, recovered incriminating evidences of the recruitment scam
- On 21 January year, the ED arrested TMC’s youth leader Kuntal Ghosh in connection with the same case
- Ghosh, it is said, was closely connected to Banerjee
