
Noted Nepali film director Pratap Subba passes away
PRASHANT ACHARYA, EOI, SILIGURI, MARCH 16, 2023: Nepali film director Pratap Subba, famous for the Nepali hit movie of yesteryears ‘Paralko Aago’ is no more.
A resident of Darjeeling, he passed away at around noon on Thursday at the age of 76 during treatment at a private hospital in Siliguri. He was having problem in his lever and was ill since November 2022.
Later his condition turned critical and he was admitted on March 13 at a private hospital in Siliguri.
Members of World Nepali Literature Federation offered heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and said that it’s a great loss for the Gorkha community. Subba began his life in film direction with ‘Paralko Aago.’
His second movie ‘Bachna Chahane Haru’ was made with support from the West Bengal government. His third movie was ‘Mashal,’ featuring Danny Denzonpa, Sushila Rayamajhi, Sunil Thap and Rajani Sharma.
The movie was the first Nepali movie of both Danny and Sunil Thapa. The fourth movie of Pratap Subba was ‘Kahi Andhyaro Kahi Ujyalo’. The premier show of the movie was halted because of the political problems in Darjeeling.
He later directed movies like ‘Didi’,‘Chatyang’, ‘Bhishma Pratigya’, ‘Bachan’, ‘Dobato’ andmany others.Jiwan Adhikari, well-known music director of Nepali film and singer expressed condolence on the death of Subba.
Speaking to this correspondent over the phone Adhikari said: “Pratap Subba resident of Rajbari in Darjeeling was a legendary figure first Indian who debuted Nepali feature film in Nepal and was super hit.
He also gave employment opportunities and chance to the struggling artists in the Nepali film industry.
