Soumya De Sarkar   |  TT  |  Malda   |  13.03.23 : Three family members of a Trinamul leader in Malda who were recruited as Group C employees in state-aided schools, may soon lose their jobs.

Recently, the West Bengal School Service Commission published a list of 842 candidates recruited in 2018, and cancelled their job recommendation letters following a directive of Calcutta High Court.

Among those who have been named on the list are Mampi Das, Shampa Das and Biplab Das, two daughters and one son-in-law of Prakash Das, a Trinamul leader based in Harishchandrapur of Malda. Biplab’s wife is Shampa.

Sources said Mampi was posted at Harishchandrapur High School, Shampa at Harishchandrapur Kiranbala Balika Vidyalaya and Biplab at Kanua Bhabanipur High School.

“Prakash Das is a prominent Trinamul leader in Kushida of Harishchandrapur-I block. We suspect there were anomalies in the recruitment of his two daughters and sonin-law,” said a local resident.

Prakash Das denied the charges.

“Both my daughters and my son-in-law got their jobs in a proper manner and worked for around five years now. We have heard their names are there in the list. If required, we will approach the judiciary,” the Trinamul leader said.

His daughters and Biplab, however, could not be contacted for their comments. Calls to them from this newspaper went unanswered.

Authorities at the schools where the three were posted said Shampa at present was on maternity leave and the other two had not been working since March 10.

“We are waiting for a written directive in this regard from the education department on necessary steps to be taken,” said the headmistress of one of the schools.

District Trinamul leaders have distanced themselves from the development.

“The law will take its own course. We have nothing to comment on this issue,” said a senior party functionary
