TT Correspondent   |   Jalpaiguri   |  28.03.23 : Three persons, including an infant, were allegedly murdered by their kin in two separate tea estates of Jalpaiguri on Sunday night.

Sources said that Lal Singh Oraon, a resident of Luksan tea estate in Nagrakata block of Jalpaiguri, allegedly killed his wife and their 10-month-old daughter, and then tried to commit suicide.

Allegedly, Oraon, 39, had a brawl with his wife Saki, 27, on Sunday night, following which he hacked her and Mamata, their 10-month-old daughter, with some sharp-edged weapon.

After murdering them, he injured himself severely with the sharp-edged weapon. On Monday morning, some neighbours spotted the bodies and informed police. A team from Nagrakata police station recovered the bodies. Oraon was also taken away and admitted to the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital in Siliguri.

In Nagaisuree tea estate, in the neighbouring Matiali block of Jalpaiguri, Bande Kharia, 65, was allegedly strangulated to death by his son Sitish, 34, on Sunday.

Residents said that Bande, a habitual drunkard, would often quarrel with his family. On Sunday, Sitish allegedly couldn’t bear it anymore and strangulated his father to death with a cord. Police are searching for him.
