Conversion of AIR Kurseong into a hub of Nepali language program production and broadcast granted

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 23 March 2023: All India Radio Kurseong will shortly be converted into a hub of Nepali language program production and broadcast. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of the union government has granted the permission to close down the Nepali service of New Delhi AIR and start a new programme from AIR Kurseong. It will be started from April first of this year.
The External Service Division (ESD) of the Prasar Bharati has issued a note in this regard stating that the AIR New Delhi will stop originating Nepali service programme of ESD from New Delhi. It will start from AIR Kurseong which will function as a hub content generation transmission in Nepali language.
Raju Bista, Member of Parliament from Darjeeling has extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur for taking concrete steps to strengthen Nepali language broadcast in All India Radio.
In a press release he has stated that ever since his election as MP of Darjeeling, he has worked diligently to strengthen the All India Radio broadcasts in Nepali language and had requested the Government to convert AIR Kurseong into a hub of Nepali language programme production and broadcast.
He states, "I am happy to share the news that Prasar Bharati has ordered AIR Kurseong to be upgraded to the HUB OF CONTENT GENERATION and TRANSMISSION for Nepali language broadcast in the country."
He further hopes that with this, local talents, artists, musicians, singers, lyricists, writers, dramatists, news readers, news producers, radio content creators will greatly benefit from this. It will be a blessing for everyone who is associated with the Nepali language broadcast in the Darjeeling hills, Terai, Dooars and the rest of North East region.
From April 1st, 2023, all AIR Nepali language program, including those of External Services division, which broadcasts Nepali news internationally will be produced in Kurseong. Kurseong will become the heart of Nepali Language Radio broadcasting in India.
He further added that "While there are some who out of their ignorance have been spewing unfounded lies, fact of the matter is that AIR Kurseong is growing from strength to strength. I am confident that very soon, AIR Kurseong will also become a hub of content generation and transmission for Nepali language Doordarshan Channel as well."
