Tourist traffic to Sikkim low due to bandh call
Don't Miss
EOI, SILIGURI, FEBRUARY 4,2023 : The two-day Sikkim bandh called by the Sikkim Democratic Front on Saturday and Sunday has left the tourists bound for Sikkim a worried lot.
The flow of traffic to Sikkim from Siliguri was visibly thin on Saturday. Some tourists postponed their travel plans while others who had already made their hotel bookings and journey tickets proceeded to Sikkim, braving possible difficulties on the way. Taxi drivers on the route sustained losses.
SANJAY AGARWAL, EOI, RANGPO, FEBRUARY 4, 2023: There was no effect on Rangpo, the main entrance of Sikkim, of the two-day bandh called by Sikkim Democratic Front on its first day on Saturday.
The movement of all types of vehicles remained smooth and all types of shops were open. Sikkim Nationalized Transport and private buses also kept their services smooth. All types of vehicles plied smoothly between Siliguri and Sikkim.
A strict vigil was maintained by Rangpo police to prevent any untoward incident. Sikkim Minister Sanjit Kharel led a peace march by Sikkim Krantikari Morcha party workers from Rangpo check post on Saturday morning.
Talking to reporters, Sanjit Kharel said that the bandh called by SDF had been rejected by the people. The shutdown called by the SDF has been thwarted by all.
