‘Parja patta’ for tea garden residents should be for as much land as they have, says union leader

YAWAN GURUNG, EOI, MIRIK, FEB 23, 2023 : Member of Darjeeling Tea Garden Labour Union Kismat Tamang said on Thursday the West Bengal government should give to tea garden residents ‘parja patta’ on as much land as they were had, and not on only five or eight decimal of land.
He said the Bharatiya Gorkha Prajatantrik Morcha and the State Government were working together to intimidate people in the tea gardens, and this needed to be opposed by all concerned.
Tea garden residents had always been harassed, now this should be stopped. If the tea garden workers continued to receive ‘parja patta’ they way they were currently being distributed by the State Government, they would have to lose a lot of their land which they would regret in future.
Appealing to residents of tea gardens to become aware of the situation in time, Tamang said they had opposed the distribution of five decimal of land as lease even before and they were doing so now as well.
