Mirik unit of HP wants BJP to deliver on Gorkhaland promise

YAWAN GURUNG, EOI, MIRIK, 25 FEBRUARY 2023 : The Darjeeling district unit of the BJP should create pressure on the central leaders of the party for the formation of a Gorkhaland state, president of the Mirik unit of Hamro Party Prashant Lama said on Saturday. He said in three consecutive terms BJP candidates had been sent as the M.P. from Darjeeling to the Lok Sabha with this mandate but it seemed that the BJP leaders were trying to escape their responsibility.
He welcomed the statement of Darjeeling District BJP president Kalyan Dewan opposing the scheme for distribution of‘ paryapatta’ in the hills the way the West Bengal Government had proposed it, but said this should not overshadow the main issue of Gorkhaland.
He said the district BJP unit was significantly silent when the West Bengal assembly passed a resolution against the partition of the State.
Even when opposition members of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration assembly went on a hunger strike on the assembly resolution issue, the BJP remained conspicuously absent from the protest.
