Mirik Municipality gets a sewage treatment plant for the lake

YAWAN GURUNG, EOI, MIRIK, FEBRUARY 17, 2023: The Mirik Engineering Department of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration handed over to the Mirik Municipality on Friday a sewage treatment plant, built at a cost of over Rs 36 crore to supply pure water to Mirik Lake. 
The handover ceremony of the documents of the sewage treatment plant line was held at the municipality office in the presence of GTA sabhasads Milesh Rai and Dhurba Bomzan. Executive Engineer of Mirik Engineering Department Surdashan Kumar Chhetri handed over the documents of to Mirik Municipality Chairman LB Rai.
The Chairman of Mirik Municipality said it was a great thing that Mirik Municipality, the smallest civic body in the state, would be able to operate the first STP line in north Bengal to protect the Mirik Lake and manage the drains, trees and fields in the civic area of Mirik.
He said that after GTA had handed over the STP line to Mirik municipality, it would be put into operation soon. 
The operation of STP would make the environment of Mirik Lake complex clean. He thanked GTA Chief Executive Anit Thapa for handing over the STP line to Mirik Municipality, saying that it would help Mirik to become a green city. 
Efforts were being made to extend the STP line to the municipal area of Mirik area as well, he said. 
“We have prepared the detailed project report and submitted it to the government. ”Milesh Rai, who was present as the representative of the GTA in the event, expressed his gratitude to the GTA Chief Executive Officer Anit Thapa for handing over the operation of the STP line to the Mirik Municipality. 
He said that it would help a lot to keep Mirik clean and tidy after the civic body started operating the STP.
He said the GTA had prepared a plan to do many things in the future in the development and expansion of Mirik. Sudarshan Kumar Chhetri, said the construction work of the STP line and three benches in Mirik Lake had been completed long ago, but due to some technical reasons, these could not be handed over to Mirik Municipality till Friday. He said that the house connection to the STP line would be completed soon.
Tekendra Zimba, the contractor of Green Pro Engineering which had got the contract of Mirik STP line, said the work could be executed on time despite the difficulties faced in2017
