Man hit by toy train, dies at Tindharia

SNS, KURSEONG, 15 FEBRUARY 2023 : An elderly man was killed when the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR), Toy Train knocked him down at 20-Mile area in Tindharia near Kurseong in Darjeeling today. Seventy-year-old Khadka Bahadur Tamang, a resident of Tindharia Tea Estate, died on the spot when he was knocked down by the train on the tracks and crushed by its wheels, sources said.
Local witnesses said the train was bound for New Jalpaiguri in Siliguri from Darjeeling when the accident occurred.
"Tamang was cutting grass for his cows near the railway tracks when the train accidentally hit him. He then came under the wheels of the train," a local said.
IT is learnt that the accident occurred at around 1:30 pm in the 20-Mile area.
When contacted for comment, a DHR official said the DHR and the Railway Police have started investigations into the incident.
