EOI, SILIGURI, FEBRUARY 18, 2023 : The Special Task Force and the CID of West Bengal Police have seized brown sugar, heroin and banned tablets worth Rs 5 crore in two separate operations.
A small four-wheeler was intercepted on Ambari Canal Road near Siliguri by the STF on Thursday night. At first nothing was found in the car. Later, when the oil tank of the car was searched, drugs and prohibited tablets were found, including 878 grams of brown sugar.
Three people were arrested.
On Friday morning, the CID intercepted a private passenger bus at Jalpai More in Siliguri, coming from Falakata in Cooch Behar. Passengers were disembarked and the vehicle was searched.
A search revealed a box containing a packet from the bonnet on the driver’s side. When the box was opened, 2.7 kgs of heron was found inside, with an estimated market value of Rs 3 crore. The driver, the conductor and the handyman of the bus were arrested.
