Body of missing Kalimpong girl found in Teesta river bed - mystery on death-
YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, FEBRUARY 19, 2023: The body of Anisha Chhetri, who had been missing from Kalimpong since February 10 morning, was found in the Teesta River near 29 Mile on Saturday.
Anisha Chhetri, the 21-year-old daughter of Kamal Dangal, a resident of Lower Bong Basti Kalimpong, was a third-year student at Kalimpong Cluny Women's College.
An FIR had been lodged at the Kalimpong police station by the family. Until now, there was no trace of Anisha,
On Saturday, during a search operation by family members Anisha's body was found in the 29th Mile river side. Anisha’s uncle Vinay Nepal said on behalf of the family a search was conducted by the family when Anisha, who went to college on the morning of February 10, did not come home.
An FIR was also lodged at Kalimpong police station on the same day. According to Vinay Nepal, looking at the CCTV records at Kalimpong Thana Danda, Anisha was in the bus going to Siliguri from Kalimpong on February 10.
The conductor of the bus was later questioned and it was learned that Anisha got off from bus after the bridge. During the search operation, Anisha's ID card was found in the Hawa Ghar on Highway 10 near Ravi jhoda towards Teesta Bazar.
Vinay Nepal said: "After that, while going to the Teesta river, Anisha's wallet, bag and account were found in the bag.”
Since February 14, the Teesta police with the help of motor boats, along with some family members, conducted a daily search in the Teesta river. Anisha's body was found in the Teesta river near 29th Mile on Saturday.
Police had sent Anisha's body to North Bengal Medical College for post-mortem and the body was handed over to the family after post-mortem on Sunday. The police are investigating into the reasons for the death.
