Don't Miss
EOI, DARJEELING, FEBRUARY 9, 2023 : The newly formed Bharatiya Gorkhaland Sangharsh Samiti (BGSS) on Thursday released their constitution to guide them inworking for the demand of a separate state.
The BGSS was formed last month in Kalimpong with the purpose of taking forward the demand of Gorkhaland.Gorkha Janmukti Morcha president Bimal Gurung had taken the initiative to bring like-minded political parties, leaders and social organizations under a common umbrella with a pan-India push for the statehood demand.
Speaking about their 38-point constitution, BGSS Drafting Committee member Kishore Bharati said: “In the constitution we have mentioned that people from different communities and religions will be treated equally and not differentiated. We want to move forward with the entire Gorkha community and not focus on the projection of an individual person or an organization. Our aim is to project the problems of our people.”
The constitution was made by the drafting committee formed for the purpose, with the body consisting of a total of 10 members from GJM, Hamro Party and All Assam Gorkha Student Union, along with those supporting the Gorkhaland issue from different parts of the country. Bharati said that other organizations like the Gorkha Activist Samuha had come up for the demand of Gorkhaland and they were present in the seminar the Samiti had organized in Delhi but failed to understand why they subsequently chose to stayaway and hold a similar programme held in Kalimpong.
Bharati, who is also the GJM spokesperson, assured that Bimal Gurung was working with the thought that the issue would be a reality if everyone was united. n. Bharati asserted that “sincerity” was of the utmost importance for being a part of this organization so that the movement did not become a failure.
