BGPM will face humiliating defeat in upcoming panchayat polls: Ajoy Edwards

Don't Miss

EOI, DARJEELING, FEB 27, 2023 :  The Hamro Party has asserted that the Bharatiya  Gorkha  Prajatantrik Morcha party would face defeat in the  up coming panchayat election.
On Monday on the sidelines of an induction programme, HP president Ajoy Edwards accused  the BGPM of hatching a conspiracy ahead of the  panchayat  poll that will be held after two  decades  in  the hills.
"The BGPM is not sincere. They are involved in a conspiracy along with the Bengal government. That's why the land rights are being distributed in the hills. This is all an election gimmick and people should not trust them," he said.
Edwards foresaw a defeat for the BGPM when the panchayat election is conducted. "They will face a humiliating defeat. Our party will ensure that the BGPM loses," he said. Last year the state government announced panchayat election in the hills after a gap of two decades. Although, there is provision for a two tier panchayat, the election for the gram panchayat was held in 2000.

The TMC is hopeful of a good show and expects to make major inroads in the hills. Around five leaders of different political parties and social organization joined the HP. "Today senior functionaries of political parties joined us and we expect several other to follow suit. I can only give my sincerity and honesty. And  the  promise  to work  for  the  people tirelessly," said Edwards.
Edwards has joined hands with the Bimal Gurung led Gorkha Janmukti Morcha party and former TCM leader from the hills, Binoy Tamang to take forward the demand for a separate state. Earlier this month, Edwards and Tamang staged a 24 hour- hunger strike to protest the resolution passed in the state Assembly against division of Bengal.
However, the call for a 12 hours bandh in the hills on February 23 was withdrawn because of the Madhyamik examination and feedbacks from the general public.
"We are formulating our strategy and will continue our protest. Very often we are tagged as outsiders. We will not tolerate this labelling of our community," said Edwards.
