RGI to relook at declaring Gorkha communities STs, says Kurseong MLA

Don't Miss

YAWAN GURUNG, EOI, MIRIK, JANUARY 4, 2023:  Not only 11 but all the left-out Gorkha communities who wanted to be recognized as tribes must be declared as scheduled tribes, MLA of Kurseong B.P. Bajgain said in Mirik on Wednesday.
He arrived in Miik on Tuesday to discuss the same issue in a meeting with representatives of the Kirant Khambu Rai Sanskritik Sansthan, the Khas Hitkari Sangathan, the All India Gurung Association and the All India Newar Sangathan.
The meeting was held at Gorkha Sainik Bhawan in Mirik. He said the Registrar General of India was examining reports from different communities to take a stand on the issue.
The earlier stand of the RGI was based on reports from individuals. He said Union Home Minister Amit Shah had promised that the issue would be looked into in consultation with all the community councils of the Gorkha community.
He said he still had faith in the promise given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah.
