Pawan Chamling likens Darjeeling to Sikkim as nails to flesh

YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, JANUARY 2, 2023 : Former Chief Minister of Sikkim Pawan Chamling on Monday described the relationship between Darjeeling and Sikkim as that of nails and flesh.“Although they are different states today, due to the linguistic and ethnicties during the rule of the Sikkim Democratic Front government in Sikkim we had passed in the Sikkim assembly a proposal and sent it to the Centre to recognize the Indian Nepali community as a minority.
We had also passed a proposal in the Sikkim Assembly that Darjeeling should be recognized as a separate state,” Chamling said, addressing a news conference in Kalimpong.
Speaking about the condition of Sikkim, he said that the situation had come to such a pass that it was necessary to save Sikkim today.
“The law and order and the economic situation in Sikkim were in shambles, the unemployment problem has increased a lot, Sikkim is in turmoil today, people are unable to speak today,” he said.
