Narendra Modi to kids: Adopt digital fasting
Prime Minister was speaking at the 6th edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha, an interactive programme with students, parents and teachers on examination stress
TT Special Correspondent | New Delhi | 28.01.23 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday advised schoolchildren to observe digital fast one day a week to avoid being enslaved by gadgets.
Modi was speaking at the 6th edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha, an interactive programme with students, parents and teachers on examination stress.
When students asked him about ways to reduce addiction to online games and social media, Modi said: “Indians spend up to six hours on an average a day on mobile phones. If we spend six hours on screen, it is a matter of concern. We should not become slaves of gadgets.”
Modi said the problem starts when users think that the gadget is smarter than them. Gadgets should be considered instruments that help in productivity. The Prime Minister said he was rarely seen with a mobile phone despite being very active.
“We should use technology as per our needs. Our Arogya Shastra and many festivals require people to observe fast. Can you observe digital fasting for one day a week? You try to observe it and you will gradually feel like increasing the fasting time. Can you also demarcate a particular place in your house as a technology-free zone? Nobody would be allowed to take mobile phones to that place. This will give you pleasure and you will enjoy your time and life,” Modi said.
Students also asked Modi about starting exam preparations and ways to manage time during exams.
On adoption of unfair means in exams, Modi said it was a dangerous trend and advised students not to cheat.
