GJM’s withdrawal from GTA immaterial, says Anit Thapa
Don't Miss
EOI, SILIGURI, JAN 28, 2023: “It does not matter if the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha has withdrawn from the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration agreement. The GTA agreement has now become a law,” Chief Executive Officer of GTA Anit Thapa said in a news conference in Pintail Village in Siliguri on Saturday. “They are thinking of playing with these issues like puppets,” he said.
“The GTA was good for their own interests until now. It is bad now if they are not in power. The issue of Gorkhaland will again burn the fire in the hills. We don’t want to see it again.” Incidentally, GJM withdrew from the GTA agreement on Friday. Anit Thapa said the permanent political solution for the hills was to make the GTA stronger and effective. “I think development is the permanent political solution for me, solving the problems of unemployment and drinking water in the hills.” He said the leaders of some political parties in the hills had lost public support. They were now trying to regain support in the hills by raising the issue of Gorkhaland. Criticizing GJM leaders Bimal Gurung and Roshan Giri,
Hamro Party president Ajoy Edwards and former Trinamool Congress leader Binoy Tamang, Anit Thapa said: “They have lost ground in the hills. As a result, they have no one else.”
On the other hand, BJPMLA Shankar Ghosh said: “The GJM has taken a good decision. Only Prime Minister Narendra Modi can develop the hills.” —
