Bhichung apprises Rahul Gandhi of need for ILP in Sikkim

PRAKASH ADHIKARI, EOI, GANGTOK, JANUARY 29, 2023 Joining the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Srinagar, Hamro Sikkim Party president Bhaichung Bhutia has apprised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi why the Inner Line Permit is necessary for the all-round development and prosperity of Sikkim.

As a constructive opposition party, the HSP is doing everything to support the government to solve the issue of ILP and seat reservation. Now it is high time the Government of Sikkim must act, and the right place to act is the Sikkim assembly,” the HSP has said in a statement.

On Friday 27 January, the President of Hamro Sikkim Party Mr. Bhaichung Bhutia addressed a press conference on the reservation of seats for the Sikkimese Nepali community and the implementation of the Inner Line Permit.

The solution to these issues involves two steps:

1. Pass the resolution/bill in the Sikkim legislative assembly and send the resolution/bill to the parliament.

2. The resolution/bill should pass in both houses of the parliament.

1st is totally in hands of the SKM-led government of Sikkim. HSP demands that the SKM government call an assembly session and pass the resolution and bill to implement ILP and provision Nepali seat reservation in Sikkim. This and only this must be done before the budget session of parliament ends which is on 6th April. Sikkim doesn’t need the drama of rallies and speeches instead of concrete steps to really solve issues.

For the Second Part, Bhaichung Bhutia took the responsibility that if the bill is brought in the parliament then all parties will support the bill.

Bhaichung already started working on his commitment by meeting 𝙍𝙖𝙝𝙪𝙡 𝙂𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙝𝙞 & 𝙋𝙧𝙞𝙮𝙖𝙣𝙠𝙖 𝙂𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙝𝙞 of Congress at *Srinagar, Kashmir* during 𝘽𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙩 𝙅𝙤𝙙𝙤 𝙔𝙖𝙩𝙧𝙖. Bhaichung explained to Rahul & Priyanka how the majority of Sikkimese who are Indians are referred as “𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗻” in the Supreme Court judgement. To ensure the safety & security of the Sikkimese Nepali community, their rightful reservation must be restored. Bhaichung also explained why ILP is necessary for Sikkim’s all-round development & prosperity. During the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Bhaichung requested all the leaders of Congress to support any resolution/bill brought in parliament to solve these issues.

As a constructive opposition party, HSP is doing everything to support the government to solve the issue of ILP and seat reservation. Now it is high time that govt of Sikkim must act. And the right place to act is the Sikkim assembly, not the rally speech. Govt must pass the bills in the assembly and send it to the parliament so that the bill is passed and becomes an Act or law.
