Binita Paul | TT | Siliguri | 04.12.22 : The North Bengal University (NBU) has constituted a resource mapping committee at the varsity for proper planning, conservation, and development of bio-resources available on campus.
Om Prakash Mishra, the vice-chancellor, said the purpose of the committee is to survey and map all resources within the vast campus of the NBU, which includes land, greenery, open and covered areas, flora and fauna.
“Although scattered and partial information is available in few of the identified areas, a complete mapping of the resources at one go is happening for the first time at NBU,” he said.
The committee, sources said, is chaired by Ranjan Roy, a faculty member of the geography department, and includes faculty members from some other departments such as zoology, botany, library, information science and Himalayan studies.
After Mishra assumed office as vice-chancellor, he took up the task to address certain infrastructure issues such as solid waste management, sewerage and security on campus.
“We intend to resolve these issues jointly with local authorities and residents. A meeting has been held. Soon, a comprehensive plan will be drawn up in this regard,” said a varsity official.
Psychiatry
An outpatient department of psychiatry will soon open at the Siliguri district hospital, said the authorities.
A 10-bed pediatric intensive care unit is almost ready, along with a 26-bed sick newborn care unit.
“The infrastructure for firefighting has also been upgraded and will be ready by the middle of this month,” said a source.
