Rajeev Ravidas   |   TT  |  Siliguri   |  05.12.22 : Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) president Pawan Chamling on Sunday launched a tirade against the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) government, accusing it of leading the state to the verge of economic and political collapse.

In a long media release, Chamling said his worst fear of Sikkim being destroyed by the “reckless” SKM leadership was coming true.

“I had earnestly cautioned the people of Sikkim that the 2019 election would not be merely for forming the next government but it would be about saving or destroying Sikkim…Sikkim is on the verge of a massive collapse, economically and politically,” he said.

SDF had lost the last election to the SKM by a whisker, winning 15 seats to SKM’s 17 in the 32-member Assembly.

The five-time former chief minister hurled a slew of accusations at the P.S. Golay-led SKM, including wholesale plunder of Sikkimese assets, dilution of Article 371F of the Constitution, which provides special status to Sikkim, pandering to forces seeking the merger of Darjeeling with Sikkim, indulging in corruption and overseeing the death of democracy.
