TT Correspondent   |   Jalpaiguri   |   26.12.22  : The state tourism department has introduced a number of new facilities at Bhorer Alo, the tourism hub at Gajoldoba in Jalpaiguri district, to draw more tourists.

“We have launched shikara rides on the Teesta river, sky-watching and indoor games from Saturday. These steps have been taken to increase the footfall of tourists,” said Jyoti Ghosh, the joint director of tourism (NB).

In Teesta and its canals, boat  rides are  very popular among tourists. In winters, hundreds of migratory birds reach the location and bird enthusiasts take rides to see the avian species and click photos.

“Two shikaras have been introduced and trained boatmen hired. Tourists will have the option to choose a ride in the country boats or these decorated boats,” said an official.

“The district administration and tourism department have introduced live sky-watching and slide shows on astronomy. The slide show would be screened at the youth hostel. Also, telescopes would be fitted at multiple locations. Anybody interested in watching the sky can avail the service free of cost,” said a source.

“Also, the forest department will soon make a bonsai garden with light and sound facility next to the youth hostel,” said an official.
