YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, DECEMBER 26, 2022: The Agricultural Mela and Maghe Mela was inaugurated at Reilly Mission Tar on Monday, after a gap of 10 years.
The fair will beheld till January 20. The fair will feature various games, exhibitions and competitions relating to agriculture. Executive member of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration Department of Information and Culture Anos Thapa said the GTA was advancing on the path of development and making the mountains a developed place. The Gorkha language and culture should be promoted.
The fair was being held to promote the culture of the Gorkha community. He said the birth anniversary of poet Agam Singh Giri of Darjeeling was approaching. The plight of the Gorkha community had been vividly expressed in Giri’s work.
“We must evolve practical ways to protect our language and culture.” While tourists were being attracted to the hills for the natural beauty, the GTA was moving forward to introduce a new form of cultural tourism. Kalimpong MLA Ruden Sada Lepcha was present in the event
