The Himalayan Times, Dec 25, 2022, KATHMANDU : 25The newly forged alliance between often friends, mostly foes CPN-UML chair KP Sharma Oli and CPN (Maoist Centre) chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal has ushered in a new wave of political development in the country.
The 'Balkot alliance' has agreed on Dahal's name as the Prime Minister of post-election government and has informed the office of the president of its decision. Dahal had exited the now defunct 'democratic alliance' after a round of meetings held between him, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and others had failed to reach a consensus on who would be the PM in the first half of the coalition government. He had left Baluwatar and headed straight to Oli's residence in Balkot after no consensus was forged, as he was adamant on heading the government in the first term while Deuba kept repeating his stance that NC will lead the government.
Dahal and Oli were later joined by leaders of Rastriya Swatantra Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party in the discussions to form a new alliance.UML, Maoist Centre, RSP, RPP, Janamat Party and Janata Samajwadi Party will now form a new government under Dahal's headship. The alliance will go to the Office of the President in a while with its proposal.
