Dubrajpur court grants Enforcement Directorate permission to get certified copies of two orders
Snehamoy Chakraborty | TT | Calcutta | 27.12.22 : The Dubrajpur court on Monday granted Enforcement Directorate permission to get certified copies of two orders issued by the former related to an attempt-to-murder case lodged by Birbhum police against Trinamul leader Anubrata Mondal.
The central agency applied for certified copies of the court’s orders to move to the Supreme Court.
“After a hearing, the court ordered in our favour. We will get certified copies of orders and proceed with legal action,” said the ED’s lawyer Tapan Sahana.
On December 19, former Trinamul gram panchayat head Shibthakur Mondal filed a complaint against Anubrata, accusing him of trying to choke him to death before the 2021 Assembly polls.
The Dubrajpur court issued a production warrant against Anubrata the same day a Delhi court granted the ED permission to quiz him at the national capital. The court also ordered sending Anubrata to seven days in police custody on December 20.
Sahana argued in court that the attempt-to-murder complaint and the two orders prevented ED from taking Anubrata to Delhi to quiz him on the cattle smuggling case.
Assistant public prosecutor Rajendra Prasad Dey argued that the ED should not get copies of the orders as it had no link with the murder-bid case. But the court ruled in the ED’s favour.
