State backward classes depart to unveil Birsa Munda's statue
Don't Miss
The move is being seen as yet another move by Trinamul Congress to woo tribal voters
TT Correspondent | Alipurduar | 13.11.22 : The state backward classes department will unveil a statue of prominent tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda at Birpara Chowpathy — a busy crossing in central Dooars under Alipurduar district — on his birth anniversary on November 15, and host a cultural event near the venue.
The event is being seen as yet another bid by Trinamul to try and win the support of tribals, most of whom sided with the saffron camp in recent elections.
“The state government has done a lot for tribal people and we are putting in all efforts to win their support. The installation of Birsa Munda’s statue proves the state is sincere about tribal sentiments,” said a senior Trinamul functionary in Alipurduar.
The state spent Rs 3.5 lakh on the statue to be unveiled by chief minister Mamata Banerjee virtually from Jungle Mahal.
