Kalimpong tourism destinations lack basic facilities

YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, NOVEMBER 24, 2022 : Kalimpong is the leader in home-stay tourism in the country, but most of such out of the way tourist destinations lack basic facilities like health centres, police stations, toilets or benches to sit on.
This not only makes things inconvenient for tourists heading for home-stays but also generates a feeling of insecurity. The roads leading to these tourist destinations are often dilapidated and there is a shortage of drinking water in some of the tourist spots.“
The condition of the road leading to most of the beautiful tourist spots in Kalimpong is deplorable,” says Manish Tamang, who is involved in the business of tourism.
Tourist Manoj Ghosh observes: “Food, culture, customs and hospitality are very good here. The beauty of the hills of Darjeeling is mesmerizing. But there is no drinking water, toilet, police protection, primary health centre.
Therefore, tourists feel unsafe. ”In fact, in the Darjeeling hills, most of the historical sites and parks are not protected. Often in the tourist places food wrappers, paper, plastic water bottles and other bottles are strewn around, polluting the environment.
The authorities donot seem to care. With the natural beauty that Darjeeling and Kalimpong are endowed with, it is believed if the facilities improve these hills would secure firmly their place in the world tourism map.
