
Darjeeling varsity offline classes to begin in Feb

MOHAN PRASAD, SNS, KURSEONG, 14 NOVEMBER 2022: Offline classes for six different subjects in the Darjeeling Hlills University (DHU) at Mungpo will begin soon after the winter vacation ends, Vice-chancellor of the DHU Prof Om Prakash Mishra said here today.
Prof Mishra, who is also the VC of the North Bengal University, today held a meeting with representatives and principals of all the 13 colleges in Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts at Kurseong College here.
Talking to reporters, Prof Mishra said they first discussed starting the offline classes from January but that during this time, there will be winter vacation in colleges in the Hills. "That is why it was later decided that offline classes in the Darjeeling Hills University, Mungpo, would be started as soon as the winter vacation ends," Prof Mishra said.
Sources said the officials discussed the need to start such classes in the DHU and the way forward."Principals and professors of 13 different colleges have agreed to cooperate in holding the offline classes from their respective colleges," a source said.
"Accordingly, offline classes will start in the Darjeeling Hills University as soon as winter vacation ends, most probably from the second or third week of February" the source said.
The six subjects that will be initially taken up are Nepali, English, Political Science, History, Mass Communications and Mathematics, it is learnt.
Notably, the much-awaited DHU officially started operations on 16 November 2021 at the ITI building at Mungpo in Darjeeling district. However, the classes were conducted in the online mode as the Covid pandemic began.
