Incident occurred at Brahmottar-Chatra area under Sitai police station of Cooch Behar district
TT Correspondent | Cooch Behar | 25.10.22 : Six BJP supporters were injured as a group of suspected Trinamul supporters attacked them during a saffron party meeting late on Sunday evening.
Trinamul leaders of Sitai block, however, denied any hand in the incident. The incident occurred at Brahmottar-Chatra area under Sitai police station of Cooch Behar district.
Sukumar Roy, the district BJP president, said that on Sunday the party had organised a workers’ meeting in Brahmottar-Chatra area.
“For the past few days, Trinamul cadres were roaming in the locality and threatening our supporters to stay away from the meeting. Even so, hundreds of supporters reached the venue. While the meeting was on, a group of Trinamul supporters reached there with motorcycles. Seeing them, most of our supporters left the place…. Trinamul workers chased and assaulted many of them,” Roy, who is also the MLA of Cooch Behar North Assembly seat, said.
The injured were rushed to a local health centre.
While three of them, including a woman, were released after first aid, the other three were referred to the MJN Medical College and Hospital where they are still under treatment.
“We filed a complaint with Sitai police on Monday. All those involved in the attack should be arrested or else we will launch an extensive movement,” the BJP leader said.
Bishnu Roy Pramanik, the Trinamul president of Sitai block, denied the charges.
“The incident was the fallout of inner rivalry within the BJP. No one from our party was involved,” he said.
