NBU VC for Executive Council meet; has a 'surprise' for Hill varsity

SNS, SILIGURI, 18 October 2022: Newly- appointed Vice Chancellor of North Bengal University (NBU) Om Prakash Mishra today said that the Executive Council of the university will hold a meeting on 20 October. On the Darjeeling Hill University, of which he holds additional charge as the VC, he said there was a "surprise" in store and that offline classes would begin there soon.
"We have planned to regularise the entire process of the University for the execution of maximum possible proposals for its development. The last meeting of the Executive Council was held in June this year. But we have planned meetings on a regular basis," Prof Mishra said, adding, "the University Court meeting will be held on 21 October and a maximum possible number of members of the Court will be attending the meeting, including representatives of the state education minister Bratya Basu. Such University Court meetings should be held thrice a year."
Prof Mishra joined the NBU 19 days ago, after the earlier VC Subires Bhattacharya, was arrested by the CBI on corruption charges.
Addressing the Press, Prof Mishra said: "Resolution of the Executive Council will be uploaded in the university website."
"We have stressed on strengthening two-way communication process, which is poor here, as soon as possible within the campus. It has also been decided to maintain a direct interaction with principals of all the 49 colleges (under the NBU) to know of their problems, and we will resolve them at the highest level. Besides, we are going to involve local people living outside the campus in an Open Hlouse meeting, which will be held in a particular day of every month," Prof Mishra added.
With a view to taking up long term projects for the development of the University, Prof Mishra said he has conceived an idea to set up a Policy and Planning Development Board by involving the best and top personalities of the country.
He further pointed out plans to introduce new subjects in the Jalpaiguri Campus, at a time when NBU has introduced MTech in Computer Science. As the VC said he was happy to announce a new idea to form a Global Alumni Association by involving all students who graduated from NBU, he said the convocation, which has been discontinued, will be held in an appropriate time. On the issue of University's land Prof Mishra said : "As long as I stay here as VC I will not give up land to any private party"
On the Hill University, the VC said: "Today was the day for a meeting with Darjeeling district officials and GTA officials to discuss many issues for its development. But due to unavoidable circumstances we had to post pone it. In fact, I want to hand over its charge to an appropriate person as soon as possible."
