Darjeeling Municipality to concentrate in career development projects for hill youths

The workshop titled "Darjeeling Career Development Program" will be organized on November 12 in Darjeeling

EOI, DARJEELING, OCTOBER 28, 2022: With unemployment  on  the  rise  and  lack  of opportunity for the educated youths in the hills,  the  Darjeeling  Municipality  has decided to organize a workshop on career persuasion in November. 

The Darjeeling Municipality, established in 1850, one of the oldest civic bodies,  will  collaborate  with  Edwards Foundation, a non-profitable organization, working socially in the Darjeeling hills. The Darjeeling Municipality is administered by the Hamro Party led by Ajoy Edwards who incidentally is also the founder patron of Edwards Foundation. 

The workshop titled "Darjeeling Career Development Program" will be organized on November 12 in Darjeeling. Darjeeling Municipality councilor Priya Dixit said it was an important responsibility of the civic body also to focus on  education  and  employment.

"Besides, looking after the civic amenities of the town, we must also work on developing   career, creating jobs and educating the youths about options available to them. Hence we decided to organize the career workshop," she said. 

The Hamro Party that was floated a year ago has since secured  the majority in the Darjeeling Municipality election to form the board. Issues like education, employment and guiding youths of the hills are some of the agenda that the Hamro Party had taken up before the election. 

"After completing their college and education, what will our educated youths do or go for jobs? We are concerned and worried about this. Our intention is to create awareness, educate and show the youths the way forward," said Dixit.      

Representing the Edwards Foundation, senior member, Roshan Lama urged and appealed to  the youths to participate in the workshop. 

"During the workshop, we will have representatives of a reputable company from Bengaluru who will talk to the participants. This will be an opportunity for participants to be selected for jobs," he said.
