Nanda Kirati Dewan, KalimNews, Kokrajhar BTR Assam September 5, 2022: The 6th Trinnenial National General Conference of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh (BGP) was held at Kokrajhar, Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Assam from 2nd September here at Commerce College premises.
The second day of the conference began with unfluring of the BGP flag by National President incharge Dr. Munish Tamang followed by 'Gorkha Jagaran Geet' and tribute to the martyrs of the nation by Nirmal Kumar Pun, Secretary General and Vice President cum National Co-ordinator of Women wing Dr. Poonam Subba. Inaugural session began with Ganesh Bandana and lighting of ceremonial lamp. Secretary General presented 2019-2022 Secretarial report which the house debated and approved it.
Shri. Madhab Chetry, Member of Council Legislative Assembly (MCLA) and Political Secretary to CEM BTR Pramod Boro released 'Sanghatan Purush' Sukhman Moktan special edition of 'Haamro Parisangh' mouth piece of BGP. He also presented the welcome address being the president reception committee also extended best wishes for the conference. The house mourned for 2 minutes in memory Late Moktan and other members of Parisangh along with known and unknown martyrs. Late Sukhman Moktan was one of the founding member of BGP who died while in National President's office on May 11, 2021.
BGP's 6th Trinnenial National General Conference delegate session yesterday elected new committee for the session 2022-2025 under the appointed Election Commissioners Loknath Upadhyay former Chairman Gorkha Development Council (GDC), Government of Assam and Dr. Harka Bahadur Chetry, founder president, All Assam Gorkha Students'Union (AAGSU) assisted by founding members of BGP B B Biswakarma and Som Parajuli. Current National Working President who was made President incharge Dr. Munish Tamang was unanimously elected National President.
Dr. Tamang is also the national president of National Federation of New States (NFNS) a conglomerate statehood seeking organisation. Senior Advocate of Gauhati High Court Nitya Nanda Upadhyay representing Assam was elected National Working President and Dr. Poonam Subba known for philanthropic works in North Bengal and founder head of Mahila Parisangh was elected as National Senior Vice President. Senior Editor, Times of India from New Delhi Joel Rai, Former Secretary General Nirmal Kumar Pun from Mizoram, Founder president of Karbinanglong Autonomous region Yam Prasad Ghimire from Karbianglong, Jagganath Koirala from Meghalaya were unanimously elected National Vice President with Dr. Dilip Chetri from Assam as Vice President incharge of North East, VB Thapa vice president incharge Northern Zone and Akash Lama vice president incharge Eastern Zone.
Poet and Orator Abhay Khaling from Siliguri was elected as Secretary General along with social worker from Manipur Khadga Tamang as Joint Secretary General. General Secretary of Assam State Committee. Bimal Pradhan was elected as National General Secretary (Organisation), Prem Kumar Pradhan from Kalimpong as National General Secretary ( Administration), International Award winning Senior Community Journalist Nanda Kirati Dewan from Assam and Guman Dhoj Subba from New Delhi were unanimously elected as National General Secretary Media & Communication.
Dr. Tikendra Kumar Chetri from Sikkim University was unanimously elected as National Co-ordinator of Bhartiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangh and Upasna Thapa from Uttarakhand was elected National Co-ordinator Bhartiya Gorkha Mahila Parisangh. Biru Subba from Siliguri was nominated as Treasurer with Dipanjlai Chetri and Devika Magrati as Asstt Treasurer. Other office bearers are Maniraj Golay - General Secretary ( Progamme), Lakpa Lama - Secretary North East, Pasang Sherpa- Secretary East, Govind Panthi- Secretary North
BTR Govt. Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro attended Open Session on Sunday as the Chief Guest while Darjeeling Lok Sabha MP Raju Bista graced the occasion as Distinguished Guest along with Kokrajhar Rajya Sabha MP Rwn Gwra Narzary. MLA Kokrajhar East Lawrence Islary, Chairman, Gorkha Development Council (GDC), Government of Assam Prem Tamang, President All Assam Gorkha Students Union (AAGSU) Arjun Chetry, President Assam Gorkha Sammelan Krishna Bhujel, President Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha (ANSS) Durga Khatiwoda and nominated Member of Autonomous Council (MAC)s attended as Guest of Honour along with Executive Members of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).
In special felicitation segment Shri Budhiman Pradhan and Late Sukhman Moktan posthumously were given 'Gorkha Gaurav Samman' for the year 2021 and 2022 respectively for their more than three decades of excellence in community services. Senior community journalist Nanda Kirati Dewan was accorded special felicitation for his one and half decades of continuous journalism addressing community concerns thereby winning national and international awards. BTR MCLA Madhab Chetry too was felicitated along with BGP Manipur state unit their outstanding organisational performance by erecting statue of martyr Subedaar Niranjan Singh Shah Chetry which was inaugurated by Chief Minister N Biren Singh in presence of Late Sukhman Moktan at Kanglatombi in Manipur and Kalimpong regional unit for erecting statue of Durga Malla recently.
Earlier in the day Dr. Poonam Subba, National Co-ordinator of Bharatiya Gorkha Mahila Parisangh presented her organisational report where in she highlighted creation of a Conflict Free, Committed Community Organisation. Her report covered Anti Drugs and Human Trafficking along with Wellness initiatives taken by Mahila Parisangh besides raising issues of community concerns. BGP's youth wing Bharatiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangh's president Nanda Kirati Dewan presented Trinnenial Report where in he highlighted the role of BGP youth wing who made major nationwide breakthroughs in 'Empowering Gorkhas and Educating Others about Gorkhas' the powerline of Bhartiya Gorkha Yuva Parisangh.
He also highlighted Parisangh's contributions in regulating OTT content after 'Patal Lok' webseries co-produced by popular Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma and streamed through Amazon Prime OTT platform had shown Gorkha and North Eastern community in poor light with derogatory remarks. The Yuva Parisangh had undertaken a nation wide movement and got support from other communities too and BGYP lead online petition that gained more than fifty thousand signatures. Case too was register at Kolkata High Court and National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) which after a long lead to passing a guidelines for censoring OTT and digital content by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. ' Bharatiya Yuva Parisangh today has established itself as the national network of Gorkha youths of India and it will soon be present in all states of India on or before silver jubilee of Parisangh', Dewan added.
On Sunday the newly elected national committee of the Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh administered oath of office and secrecy and 'BGP Kokrajhar Declaration 2022' was made public.
