Beautification of 3 Mile Kalimpong begins

YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, 5 SEPTEMBER 2022: The foundation stone was laid on Monday for the beautification of the 3 Mile area in Kalimpong. Hindu religious rites connected with cremation are held at 3 Mile before the cremation of bodies at Labarbote.
The construction work for the beautification project was also initiated during the day after the laying of the foundation stone in accordance with Hindu religious rituals.
The work, being executed through the PWD, would cost Rs 3 lakh, it was learnt.
Talking to news persons at the site, social worker Gayatri Mukhia said on March 26 an application was filed with the PWD for the beautification of 3 Mile area where people rotated the bodies three times. Though the place had a religious significance, it was lying dilapidated, causing inconvenience to people.
Villagers had applied to the PWD in view of the inconvenience faced by them. Representatives of contractors executing the job were also present at the day's event.
