Palampur institute helps Kalimpong farmers with aromatic plant cultivation Sabhasad of


YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, 26 AUGUST 2022: A team of scientists from CSIR Institute of Himalayan Bio resource Technology, Palampu, Himachal Pradesh, one of the constituent laboratories of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi, has visited Kalimpong to look after the research and development activities on aromatic plants, and distribution of rooted slips of aromatic plants to lemon grass to beneficiary farmers of Mani Trust, Kalimpong. 
A training and programme and lemon grass distribution has been held at Pudung Gram Panchayat under Kalimpong Block I.
A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed between Mani Trust and CSIR:IHBT for the promotion Aroma Mission Phase II. An Aroma and medicinal plant Distillation Unit has already been installed at the Kalimpong Regulated Market Yard premises by the Trust for the distribution of 100,000 lemon grass saplings among the farmers so that a strong aromatic value chain can be created to benefit of the farmers and entrepreneurs of the region. Various upcoming projects of Mani Trust would benefit economically backward sections of north Bengal. 
Sabhasad of constituency no. 36 of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration Palden Tamang has thanked CSIR: HIST and Mani rust for various schemes to support farmers. Such an initiative would not only help the farmers to use their barren lands but also put an end to the rampant sale of land in the villages.
