Limboo-Tamang seat reservation issue before Delhi, says Sikkim :
State Government is committed in resolving the long-pending demands related to the provisions of L - T seats in the assembly and the inclusion of 12 left-out communities in the tribal category.
PRAKASH ADHIKARI and SUJAL PRADHAN GANGTOK, AUGUST 23, 2022: Minister for Social Welfare of Sikkim M. K.Sharma said in the State assembly on Tuesday that the State Government had placed the request before the Centre for the provision of seats for Limboo and Tamang communities in the assembly.
In reply to questions raised by members D. R. Thapa and N. K. Subba, he reiterated the commitment of the State Government in resolving the long-pending demands related to the provisions of L - T seats in the assembly and the inclusion of 12 left-out communities in the tribal category.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang clarified that committees had been constituted to pursue the ST status for the left-out communities and for the L-T seats in the Sikkim assembly. Here counted how the demand or seat reservation began in 2002-03 when the two communities secured tribal status.
There is need for a collective effort rather than an individualistic approach. It is the issue of the Sikkimese people. We are certain the Centre will take action. Delimitation of constituencies is yet to happen. There is a need for constituency delimitation."BJP MLA from Rumtek -Martam constituency Sonam Venchungpa said the issue would have been solved when the Delimitation Commission was set up in 2006 under Justice Kuldeep Singh "During the hearing I had kept some suggestions, but SDF supporters tried to sabotage my idea."
