Kurseong MLA demands investigationinto housing fraud by Mirik NGO
YAWAN GURUNG, EOI, MIRIK, AUGUST 1, 2022: MLA of Kurseong B. P. Bajgain on Monday submited a memorandum to Subdivisional Officer of Mirik Sudipta Debnath and Mirik police station officer in-charge Sudip Kumar Biswas, demanding a fair investigation into allegtions of a Mirik-based NGO cheating people under the pretext of building houses in Mirik and many other places and arrest of the culprits.
After meeting the officials B P Bajgain told reporters that after receiving a complaint from a victims of the fraud under the pretext of building houses for them, he had met with Mirik SDO and Mirik police station in-charge and asked them to investigate the incident impartially and take action according to the law.
He alleged that the NGO had collected more than Rs 26000 from every people, amounting to an estimated total of Rs 7crore against fraudulent documents. It was a case of big fraud and it was necessary to investigate where the money collected from the common people was being used and who were involved in the scam.
Doma Tamang, one of the victims, said Rs 26,000 and Rs 42,000 were collected in two instalments but the house had not yet been built. Two of the victims had even received death threats from the culprits.
He demanded that the money should be returned to the victims by the culprits.
