TT Web Desk | Calcutta | 16.08.22 : The ongoing imbroglio involving the AIFF has taken a turn for the worse.
The Bureau of the Fifa Council has unanimously decided to suspend the All India Football Federation (AIFF) with immediate effect due to undue influence from third parties, which is considered a serious violation of the football governing body’s Statutes.
What this development means
The suspension means the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022, scheduled to take place in the country from October 11 to 30 this year, cannot be held as planned. However, FIFA is reassessing the next steps with regard to the tournament and will refer the matter to the Bureau of the Council if and when necessary, according to the official release.
