Digital Media Journalists'Forum, Assam, to organise conference on Wednesday
Don't Miss
EOI, GUWAHATI, AUGUST 7, 2022: Digital Media Journalists' Forum, Assam has organised a general meeting at Guwahati Press Club on August 10 to discuss the challenges and opportunities in front of digital media in the state. The conference has been called at a time when the government is mulling controls for the largely unregulated sector.
The Forum says it has been working for the security and rights of digital media journalists and workers. It is high time for this news media to be recognised as avaluable contributor, feels the Forum. In a recently released statement, Forum president Bedabrata Bora and general secretary Nabajyoti Kalita, pointed out that the digital media journalists and workers are facing challenges in matters of security and rights, with the government often taking an indifferent view.
The statement further says that digital media is favoured by the new generation and many established journalists as well as upcoming ones have joined digital media and working relentlessly to publish important news, in spite of the challenges faced by this form of media. In an interaction with electronic media, the Forum said it will endeavour to set up a digital media organisation that will have a self- regulatory charter and good interfacing with the government.
Forum officials also said then that the organisation will also train journalists and ensure that they are not criticised, the way they are now. The conference slated for 11 AM on Wednesday will discuss many important matters related to digital media, including the Information Technology Act, which the central government has been proposing to rein in the digital media, according to both Bora and Kalita. They also invited all digital news portals and the journalists and workers engaged in digital media in the state to attend the said general conference.
