Animesh Bisoee | TT | Jamshdepur | 14.08.22 : Twelve victims of trafficking from Jharkhand, which include 10 minor girls, have been rescued from Delhi and are on their way back.
According to the nodal officer at the Integrated Rehabilitation Resource Centre, New Delhi, Nachiketa, 10 minor girls and a woman from different blocks of West Singhbhum district and a boy from Simdega district have been rescued from different parts of Delhi.
“They boarded a train to Delhi on Friday and would reach Ranchi on Saturday evening. From there, they would be taken by the respective district administrations,” Nachiketa said. The rescued girls also include a one-and-a-half year old child.
“The woman was pregnant when she was rescued and delivered a girl child but due to physical torture she was mentally unstable and could not recognise her own child. The Delhi police handed over the woman to a short-stay home and the child to the Child Welfare Committee. About a year after treatment, the woman expressed her desire to meet her baby girl. With the help of West Singhbhum district administration, the girl was reunited with her mother and along with the team of Integrated Rehabilitation Resource Centre, the mother and her baby are being sent to Jharkhand,” Nachiketa said.
He said several girl children had undergone physical and mental abuse and cases had been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act by the Delhi police. According to sources in the control room for migrants operational in Jharkhand, instructions have been issued by the state women and child development department to all the deputy commissioners, district social welfare officer and child protection officers that children should be rehabilitated in their home districts.
“All the rescued children and woman will be linked with various schemes run by the social welfare department so that the girls do not become victims of human trafficking again,” said the source in state migrant control room.
“Most of the rescued girls had fallen to the trap of trafficking through local brokers active in their districts who lure them with the promise of good life and employment,” the source added. The rescued children being sent to Jharkhand will be continuously monitored through the village child protection committee by connecting them with welfare schemes, sponsorship, foster care and through admission in Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls’ Schools run in the district.
