Rains leave Kalimpong ruralroads in poor condition
Don't Miss
YOWAN MOTHAY | EOI | KALIMPONG | JULY 6, 2022 : Roads connecting different villages in the Kalimpong district are in a poor condition due to the heavy rains, putting travelers to inconvenience.
Roads leading to many villages in constituency nos 41 and 42 have been closed due to landslides. People living in dozens of villages on the road connecting to NHPC Phase 4 via Barbot, Jaryotar and Yangmakum are facing many problems. Villagers have been forced to build their own roads.
The condition of the road to Kalijhora through NHPC Phase 4 is critical, putting passengers and driver travelling on the road to a risk. In the absence of any effort by the government to maintain the road, villagers themselves have been carrying out the work of cleaning the road, says villager Purna Limbu.
Even after informing the authorities about the condition of the road, no initiative has been taken to repair the road.
The road is used by villagers of the area to go to Kalimpong, Siliguri and Darjeeling to sell goods and to bring goods from different places. Limbu says the road is the lifeline for the people of the area.
