One more Covid patient ofJaigaon dies at NBMCH, 10 admitted
SNS, SILIGURI, 29 JULY 2022: One more patient who had tested positive for Covid -19 died at the North Bengal Medical College and Hospital (NBMCH) on Friday. The medical fraternity has called upon all the eligible population to take the booster dose of the Covid19 vaccine. Though the 75-year-old Covid patient had taken the double dose of Covid vaccine, he had not received the booster shot, NBMCH sources said.
A resident of Jaigaon Alipurduar district, he was admitted in the Covid Block-II of the NBMCH on 23 July, sources said.
"He had also been suffering from interstitial lung disease with sepsis," said NBMCH superintendent Dr Sanjay Mallik.
Meanwhile, 10 Covid patients were admitted in the NBMCH today, it is learnt.
Sources said 10 Covid patients have died in the NBMCH this month so far. Doctors said most of them had been suffering from comorbidities.
We appeal to the eligible section to take the precautionary jabs immediately, which offers greater protection from severity of Covid-19," Dr Mallik said.
The 75-day window for the third dose for those between and 59 years will end on 30 September.
Sources at the health department said around 40-50 Covid19 cases are being reported in Darjeeling district every day
"We have given priority to the booster dose. We are campaigning and holding camps at the micro level. Earlier, the response had been low, but now the pace has been picking up for the last few days. At the same time we are requesting people to adhere to the Covid protocol," said Darjeeling district magistrate S Ponnambalam.
The Siliguri Municipal Corporation is conducting vaccination camps at the ward level, and voluntary organisations have been engaged to hold such camps.
"Around 3,000 people am taking precaution doses from the 10 urban primary health centres under the civic body and the ward wise camps daily," said the corporation commissioner Sonam Wangdi Bhutia.
