Sikkim: Bodies of 3 Sikkim Police personnel killed in accident handed over to relatives

DICHEN ONGMU, EOI, GANGTOK, JUNE 16 , 2022 : The mortal remains of three Sikkim police personnel who lost their lives in a road accident at Dzongu, in the Mangan District of north Sikkim during the heavy rains on Wednesday afternoon were handed over to their respective families with full police honours on Thursday. 
Police sources informed that the vehicle plunged down around 200 metres below the road, killing the three and injuring the remaining four co-passengers who are undergoing medical treatment at STNM hospital om Gangtok. The three victims of the road accident who were deputed at Sangkhalang police check post, have been identified as: ASI Santa Bir Tamang and village guards Lyangsong Lepcha and Ugen Lepcha, both of who were from Dzongu..
They died in the line of duty while fetching Lendup Lepcha, a POCSO accused from Lingzya. A large number of police personnel gathered at District hospital Mangan to pay the last respect to their fellow colleagues. As per police source, ASI Santa Bir Tamang's last rites will be held on Friday at his native village Pakshep. The Mangan District police have handed over ration of Rs 10,000 each to the bereaved families as an immediate support from their side.
