In the election of the GTA held on 26 June 2022 and results declared today BGPM gained a full majority in the 45 seat GTA Sabha winning 26 seats out of 35 seats it had contested. while recently formed Hamro Party was able to secure 8 seats out of 45 it had contested and AITMC secured 5 out of 10 seats. 6 Independent candidates are elected in this election.

Meanwhile, an independent candidate Rajesh Chauhan of Const no 17 Rangbull Doteriah has extended his support to BGPM the tally being 27.
Out of the the elected 45 candidates, all 38 are greenhorns and some even to the politics, only 6 (Anit Thapa in 2 seats, Uday Dewan, Ratan Thapa, Arun Sighchi, Anusha kr Thapa, of BGPM and Binay Tamang of AITMC were elected in the first GTA sabha.
In this election, two BGPM heavy weights, its general secretary Amar Lama who recently resigned from the post of Commissioner of Darjeeling municipality lost to Hamro Party candidate Robert Chhetri from Darjeeling Sadar II, Constituency no 9, and Alok Kanta Mani Thulung, president of Darjeeling Sub divisional Committee of BGPM lost to Suraj Rai an Independent candidate.
Meanwhile, chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has congratulated people of Darjeeling for keeping peace and participating in the election and stated that out of 45 seats only eight are elected by opposition party while Anit Thapa's party, her party's 5 candidates along with independents in the alliance won the election.
Anit Thapa while addressing the press said that there is long way to go ahead for the party and more than celebrating the victory it has challenges to face.
