Binita Paul | TT | Siliguri | 08.06.22 : Resumption of two train services between Calcutta and Bangladesh and introduction of a third from north Bengal to Dhaka has prompted stakeholders of the tourism industry of the neighbouring country to plan an event ahead of Durga Puja to woo tourists from Bengal during the festive season.
“We will organise the Asian Tourism Fair (ATF) in Dhaka from September 29 to October 1 with the catchline ‘Ebar Pujoy Bangladesh (A trip to Bangladesh this Puja). The idea is to draw tourists from Bengal as they are emotionally connected with Bangladesh. Every year, thousands of people from Bengal travel during the festive season. This time, we want them to visit Bangladesh,” said Mahiuddin Helal, the ATF chairman.
The ATF, sources said, is endorsed by the ministry of civil aviation and tourism of Bangladesh and is supported by the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation and Bangladesh Tourism Board.
Helal also added that the Bangladesh travel industry is also planning to draw up a seven-day package geared around February 21, the International Mother Language Day, in 2023.
“Many residents of Bengal want to visit Bangladesh at that time. That is why we are working on the package,” said Helal.
