
Two held in Siliguri robbery case
SNS, SILIGURI, 20 MAY 2022: The Siliguri Metropolitan Police has arrested two miscreants for their involvement in looting an elderly couple at their residence at ISKCON Mandir Road under ward 40.
Three miscreants had broken a grill of a window on the ground floor of the three-storey building there and reached the first floor of the three storey building there and reached the first floor.
They fled away after looting Rs 7lakh and jewelry worth around Rs 3 lakh, after leaving an elderly person injured in the intervening night of 9 and 10 May.
"Police started work to nab the miscreants by activating the special operations group, detective department and police stations. We rounded up 14 persons who have similar backgrounds. During interrogation, it came to our notice that at least two such persons had disappeared. Two persons who were arrested after the incident in the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act were involved in the loot. They have confessed to the crime," said the deputy commissioner of SMP (Head-quarters), Joy Tudu.
The police had arrested the duo in the NDPS case from the Bhaktinagar area on13 May. The police recovered Rs 2.61 lakh in cash, one gold necklace, and two silver anklets from them.
The investigations revealed their involvement. They have old criminal records. The had earlier made an unsuccessful attempt to loot the same place. We are hopeful that the others involved in the incident will be arrested soon. We have recovered 75 percent stolen items and the remaining will also be found," Mr Tudu said. The two miscreants has been identified as Amesh Sikdar and Ajay Ghosh of the Bhaktinagar area.
Meanwhile, police today arrested a rickshaw puller, Bachhu Paul, for allegedly killing a security guard of a building, Binay Roy, at Haider Para on 28 ApriI.His body was found on the premises.
Mr Tudu said both Roy and Paul had an argument over the rickshaw fare that day.
"They had a scuffle and Paul pierced an iron rod in his belly. Police picked him up from Haider Para. He has admitted to his crime," he said.
