SNS, SILIGURI, 14 April 2022: The Siliguri Metropolitan Police has busted an inter-state racket selling stolen vehicles and arrested two persons, including a Bihar resident.
Members of the racket used to erase and tamper with the engine and chassis numbers of stolen vehicles in a garage at Paribahan Nagar, sources said.
Police picked up Roshan Kumar of Samastipur, Bihar, and Biswajit Das, the garage owner of Pradhannagar yesterday.
Police said their investigations were based on specific inputs that a Bihar-based gang used to steal vehicles them and change the engine and chassis numbers at garages in Siliguri and use them in nefarious activities. Police found some number plates of Bihar at the garage.
"The original numbers were scratched with a machine and paint. The Bihar numbers were changed to West Bengal numbers. We have found at least one such vehicle, and also some with Bihar numbers. They would modify the cars and resell them. The vehicles are often used for illegal activities. Two Bolero vehicles of Bihar with tampered engine and chassis numbers have been recovered and seized from the garage in which they were carrying out the illegal
activities. Two cases of stolen cars had been registered at the Begusarai police station in Bihar," said a police officer.
Meanwhile, in a separate case, police arrested three persons for cyber bullying and sexual harassment.
Sources said a case was registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station on 11 April, in which one minor girl had a relationship with one accused from North Dinajpur district.

Officers at the police station immediately responded and started working on the case with topmost priority" a senior police officer said.
According to leads, the modus operandi and complex analysis of technical surveillance led the police team to Mangshila in North Sikkim. With assistance from the Sikkim Police, sleuths of the Cyber Crime Police Station zeroed in on the miscreants and arrested three of them, Rajibul Sha, Manjay Alam and Jainul Ali of Chopra, North Dinajpur district.
