Darj student's body arrives home from Madhya Pradesh

SNS, DARJEELING, 15 APRIL 2022: The body of 29-year-old Priyadarshani Chettri was finally brought to her home at Shanti Parbat at Singamari in Darjeeling town this evening
Priyadarshani was found dead in Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh on 11 April, while the Jabalpur Police had called her family members in Darjeeling on 12 April and told them that Priyadarshini had committed suicide.
Her body arrived here late in the evening, while family sources said that her funeral would be held at Jamuney near Darjeeling at 10 am tomorrow. Family members said they had a tough time bringing the body home as Bagdogra Airport is closed for repairs.
The body had to be brought all the way from Madhya Pradesh in an ambulance, they said. Though the Jabalpur Police have termed the death a case of suicide, family members have said that it was hard to believe that such a jolly girl had committed suicide. They have demanded proper investigations into the matter.
According to her family members, Priyadarshani had been in Jabalpur district in Madhya Pradesh for the past five years, studying in the Tropical Forest Research Institute, and was to come back home after finishing her studies this year. They also maintained that her marriage had also been fixed this year.
"It does not seem right that she committed suicide as she was not that type of a person at all. She was a very jolly and happy kind of person, with us chatting with each other
almost everyday in our mobile phones," her elder sister, Priyanka, had said earlier.
Other family members and neighbours were also of the opinion that there were no signs of depression in her that may have led her to take such a drastic step.
Darjeeling's MP Raju Bista has written a letter to the Madhya Pradesh Minister for Home Affairs, demanding impartial and proper investigations into the death.
