The duo, sources said, will reach Malda by train on Wednesday morning and would be treated at the Malda Medical College and Hospital.

On April 23 late evening, Anikul Islam and his brother-in-law Najimul Haque, both hailing from different villages  under Chanchal police station of Malda, were shot at in Budgam district of Kashmir by suspected terrorists who opened fire indiscriminately.

Their families had urged the district Trinamul leaders and the administration to bring them back to Bengal.

On Tuesday evening, they landed in Calcutta and would take a  night train to Malda, administrative sources said.

“They are being accompanied by two other migrants who are their relatives. We collected their details according to state directives and had shared it with the resident commissioner posted in New Delhi. He made the arrangements to bring the duo back,” said Rajarshi Mitra, the district magistrate of Malda.

Both would be taken to the MMCH for treatment.

The families thanked the Mamata Banerjee government for bringing them home.

“It is good that the state has made arrangements to bring them home. We are hoping for their complete recovery,” said Merina Bibi, Anikul’s wife.
