Low pressure over central parts of south Bay of Bengal.: Prediction of rain, squall and thunder

PR, IMD, KalimNews, Kalimpong, 16 March 22: Weather remained dry over the state.
A low pressure area has formed over central parts of south Bay of Bengal. It is likely to move east northeastwards and become a well marked low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea around the 19th morning. Thereafter, it is likely to move northwestwards initially along & off Andaman & Nicobar Islands, intensify into a depression by morning of 20th March and into a cyclonic storm around 21st March. It would then continue to move north northwest awards till 22nd March. Thereafter, it will move north northeastwards and reach near Bangladesh and adjoining the north Myanmar coast by morning of 23rd March, 2022. A trough runs from east Bihar to north Odisha at 1.5 km above mean sea level. Yesterday's cyclonic circulation over east Bangladesh & neighbourhood between 1.5 km & 3.6 km above mean sea level has become less marked.
Due to formation of Low Pressure area over Equatorial Indian ocean and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal and its likely movement & intensification on 19th March, 2022
Shallow fog occurred at one or two places over Coastal Odisha. Weather remained dry over the region. Today’s minimum temperature rose appreciably with marked rises at a few places in Gangetic West Bengal; rose appreciably at a few places in Odisha, Jharkhand & the Southern parts of Sub Himalayan West Bengal and at one or two places in Bihar; fell appreciably at one or two places in the Northern parts of Sub Himalayan West Bengal. No large change occurred elsewhere in the region. 
Yesterday’s maximum temperature rose appreciably at one or two places in Bihar & West Bengal. No large change occurred elsewhere in the region. 
Those were above to appreciably above normal at one or two places with markedly above normal at many places in Sikkim & Sub Himalayan West Bengal; above to appreciably above normal at most places in Jharkhand, Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal; above normal at most places in Bihar, and normal elsewhere in the region. 
The highest maximum temperature of 39.7 °C was recorded at Angul (Odisha) in the plains of the region.

19 March:  Rain or thundershowers very likely to occur at most places over Nicobar Islands and at many places over Andaman Islands. Dry weather most likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Sikkim and the districts of West Bengal. 
20 March: Rain or thundershowers very likely to occur at most places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands; likely at one or two places over Sikkim & Darjeeling, Kalimpong districts of Sub Himalayan West Bengal . Dry weather most likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and the rest districts of West Bengal.

20 -21 March: 1) Heavy to Very Heavy rain (7-20 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over Andaman Islands. 2) Heavy to Very Heavy rain (7-20 cm) with Extremely Heavy rain(>20 cm) very likely to occur at one or two places over Nicobar Islands. 3) Thunderstorms & lightning with gusty wind(speed reaching 45-55 kmph) likely to occur at one or two places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
22 March: Light to moderate rainfall/thundershower at most places with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over Andaman Islands.

Wind warning
 17th and 18th March: Squally winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph are very likely to prevail over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea.
 19th March: Squally winds speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph are very likely to prevail over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andaman Sea and southeast Bay of Bengal.
 20th March: Squally winds speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph are very likely to prevail over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andaman Sea and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal from morning hours and would gradually increase thereafter.
 21st March: Gale winds speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph are very likely to prevail over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, eastcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal.
 22nd March: Gale winds speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph are very likely to prevail over eastcentral Bay of Bengal, north Andaman Islands, north Andaman and adjoining areas.
 23rd March: Gale winds speed reaching 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph are very likely to prevail over northeast and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal and along and off Bangladesh-north Myanmar coasts.

17 March: Partly cloudy sky likely over Darjeeling, Kalimpong districts of Sub Himalayan West Bengal. Mainly clear sky likely over the rest districts of West Bengal.
